Holmes Institute Canada's Business Diploma Launch Party Recap

HIC officially kicked off our new Business Co-Op Diploma program with a launch party that was nothing short of spectacular.

A great mix of our education agents, industry partners, and representatives from our public college partners came for the festivities.  Students from HIC were employed on the bar, and on the floor to welcome and serve our guests.  There were signature cocktails, speeches, theatrics and an amazing raffle at the end.

Our signature cocktails, the SOL Camps Gotta Have Sol, the Eager Teacher from Teaching House, the OHC Speak Easy, and of course, the E&L (Earn & Learn) from HIC were a hit!

The new 2-year Diploma of Business Management with Co-op will commence on 3 September, 2024.

Co-Op Spotlight

Spotlight on Rajandeep Singh's Internship at the Blake House

Rajandeep Singh from India is one of our HIC Hospitality students.

He has chosen to do an HIC industry internship programs at the Blake House Restaurant, a well known Toronto's eatery. This opportunity allows him to apply what he's learned in class to real hospitality situations while simultaneously learning many new skills on the job.

It is standard in the industry to start from the ground up. "Raj" as his workmates call him, is working in the restaurant's commercial kitchen, preparing food, and working with as team of commercial cooks.  He works two days a week after class.

HIC offers its students a variety of similar internships for students during their classes. This kind of hands-on industry experience along with a recommendation from the employer is invaluable when students move onto their co-op work component.  It can be very helpful in their finding a higher level position with a better salary.

Field Trip to Sutton Place Hotel

Check out our Field Trip to Sutton Place Hotel

Join our students as they explore one of Toronto's luxury boutique hotels. This trip offered a practical look into the operations of a top-tier boutique hotel, the Sutton Place. Students were met by the Hotel Manager, the Sales Manager, and the Front Desk Manager. They learned about the different kinds of hotels, the sales points of each, and the range of jobs available.   They got a chance to see first hand some stunning guest rooms, learn about front of and back of office, and meet the chef in the Hotel's top-end restaurant Abrielle.

The Sutton Place Team provided the HIC students with insights into how to be successful in the Hotel sector: namely the importance of learning everything thing from the ground up, of training in different departments, of quality customer service and of team work.

HIC organises monthly field trips as part of the course. These outings provide an opportunity for the students to learn first hand from industry professionals in their own establishments. Many of our HIC industry partners also offer internships for the right HIC candidate.
